ADHA:
the Meaning of Sacrifice

Dhika Prabowo

2024
Dhika spent seven years documenting the qurban tradition across dozens of locations, from Sumatra to Papua, capturing various visuals and narratives. This visual journey is compiled into a photobook that delves into the sacred laughter ritual (Adha), offering a deeper meaning behind its origin.

In Indonesia, the practice of qurban is deeply ingrained as a tradition of sharing, rooted in the local wisdom of diverse cultures. Communities raise livestock, slaughter, prepare, and distribute the meat to those entitled and in need, making qurban a means of fostering connections between humans and the Creator.

Through ADHA: the Meaning of Sacrifice, Dhika introduced qurban as an islamic religious tradition, showcasing its various forms across regions and cultures in the Indonesian archipelago.
