Bekasi Kota Kita 2021 is a collection of photographs from an open call organised by Gueari Galeri, driven by our desire to reconnect with our city that we live in during the COVID-19 pandemic. We invited the people of Bekasi and its surroundings to submit photographs as an organic and collective way of interpreting the city. A total of 240 photographs were gathered from 52 photographers, representing various professional backgrounds, including photojournalists, students, housewives, civil servants, and more. Through a curatorial process, 113 photographs from 35 participants were selected and presented in a photography exhibition and photobook, launched in conjunction with Bekasi City’s 24th anniversary on 10 March 2021. These collected images provide insight into how far Bekasi has progressed in shaping its identity.
