In 2022, I had the chance to visit my late father’s hometown. I did not exactly expect anything from that trip, but as strange as it may seem I could feel him embracing me there: in the waves that ran through the sea, the lavender plants that swayed with the wind, and the sun shining tirelessly in the vast horizon. And that led me to return home and to dig up more about him. And as it happened, there were a lot of photographic archives that we have of him and from him.
In Best Comes in Pairs, I invite my fellow readers to join me on a journey of discovering my late father. The photobook starts with my trip to his hometown and his experience in that town, told in the stitch-bound book. It continues with the memories we shared in our travels, which curiously, we both experienced separately at different times, depicted in the dos-a-dos book. The third book, a film photo album, represents his life’s journey that spans thirty years, starting in the 70’s and ending in 2000s. The fourth book represents my recollections of him—limited, fragmental, and incomplete.
