HUMBA AILULU

Simon Onggo

2018

Humba Ailulu represents a movement aimed at preventing the collapse of Humba society. Initiated by young Humbanese individuals, this movement upholds the belief that aesthetic values should take center stage. However, society opposed prioritising aesthetic and symbolic values over ethical and moral principles.

Humba Ailulu also seeks to protect the traditional values–often perceived as outdated or obsolete–from the influence of dominant modern values and emerging social institutions that may not align with the true essence of Humba culture. The movement continues to preserve the legacy of Humba values, which are deeply rooted in a strong connection with nature and a profound gratitude toward the Creator.
