“Lenggak-Lenggok (Dancing with the Body) is a visual journey born from my admiration for the spirit and dedication of traditional Jaipong dancers who struggle on the outskirts of a town in West Java.
Here, they dance not merely for entertainment, but to preserve a cultural heritage that continues to fade with time. In their movements lie stories of love, resilience, and the strength to face life’s challenges.
This film captures the dancers in their natural setting, talking, joking, and living their daily lives. Every stomp of the foot and sway of the scarf becomes a symbol of resistance against economic hardship and the stigma that traditional arts are no longer relevant.
I want the audience to see Jaipong not just as a beautiful dance, but as a reflection of human determination to endure in the face of adversity. Through this film, I hope to pay tribute to the dancers who, with selfless love, continue to keep our culture alive.” – Andi Imam Prakasa, the movie director of Lenggak Lenggok
