In Therapeutic Photography, the process of capturing, selecting pictures, and storytelling is crucial in exploring an individual’s perception, values, and expectations. The meanings derived from interpreting these pictures are shaped by each person’s unique set of experiences and knowledge, which will differ from another’s–acting as mirrors of past memories. The images created during the therapeutic photography sessions in this book serve as personal symbols for the PASIGALA (Palu, Sigi and Donggala) youths, symbols that may rest below their conscious awareness, previously inexpressible through words. These personal symbols carry anxieties and represent both the needs and the desire of hope. They are what compelled these individuals to aim their lenses, press the camera shutter, capture the moment, and select the images that held the deepest meaning for them.
